Parikka, the celebrity once referred to as the Funniest Person in Finland, and his troupe are planning to be executed for the atrocities committed during the Civil War in Finland. An admirer of both all Parikka, jaeger Lieutenant Nyborg, supposes a definite miscarriage of justice. He desires to save the actors. The forthcoming visit of the German General von der Goltz into the prison island provides a suitable opportunity to him. Nyborg suggests that the actors prepare a performance for visitors and not be shot. They are going to soon be given a new trial. Preparing a comedy in the conditions, in the middle of death and thirst, sounds an overwhelming undertaking. Just a handful of actors that are real are still alive, the rest of the troupe consists of stagehands. Parikka has to make utilize of all his imaginative skills to be able to generate something funny.
