Myrtle Gordon is an alcoholic actress who is preparing to premiere her latest play about an aged woman. A automobile kills a Myrtle admirer who is pursuing her limousine to attract her attention. Myrtle internalizes the accident and embarks on a spiritual quest, but she is unsuccessful. As opening night approaches, Myrtle must find a way to keep the performance going.
