This Texas town near Wichita Falls is getting ready to celebrate its 100th birthday next year. In the last few days, oil prices have gone down, banks have failed, and Duane is $12 million in debt. His wife Karla drinks too much, his kids are always in trouble, and he plays with the wives of his friends. Jacqueline has come back to town, after a few years of acting in movies, living in Italy, and losing her child to leukemia. People think Duane and Jacy will get back together. And Sonny is "drowsy in his mind," which makes people think about how safe he is. It's not clear if these friends can stay calm in middle age.
