Mikami, a middle-aged ex-yakuza who spent the majority of his life behind bars, is released after serving a 13-year murder sentence. He registers for a TV show in the hopes of reuniting with his long-lost mother, from whom he was estranged as a child, and meets a young TV director named Tsunoda. He battles to integrate into society and get a respectable career in the meantime. His connection with Tsunoda and those who desire to assist him is strained due to his impulsive, obstinate nature, and deeply held convictions.
