She wants to make up for the death of a young boy, which she could have prevented but didn't. There is a prison of guilt built up inside of her because of the way she worked with the government as a reporter. The government has successfully changed her. Laura is sent to Aquila, a prison where no one can escape and an annual monsoon floods the prison, killing everyone. And then she finds out that one of the guards is the man who killed the young boy. Avenge the death of the boy and free herself from guilt: This is her chance. A prisoner named Joseph has been working to get out of Aquila before the next flood comes, and he's been in the big cell with her. This is what he's come up with. He can't do it alone. he must get his new cellmate to give up murder and choose to live with him and escape.
