The film chronicles Tarkovsky's life and career, with the filmmaker narrating his own tale and giving us insight into his artistic philosophy, as well as his personal philosophy on the fate of the artist and the purpose of life. With the help of some incredibly rare audio recordings, fans of the late, great director can now fully immerse themselves in the enigmatic world of his cinematic images, better understanding and reevaluating his work and inner life in the process. Poems written by the director's father, Arseny Tarkovsky, one of the best Russian poets of the 20th century, are recited by the author and included in the tale.
