Black Magic for White Boys
By summoning true black magic at a modest New York theater, an elderly magician tries to preserve a piece of the city's past. A surreal comedy journey about gentrification, race, and the right to one's own body in New York City, Onur Tukel's latest film BLACK MAGIC FOR WHITE BOYS blends harsh reality with magnificent illusion. Reworked from a Tribeca screening in 2017 into an hour-long dark comedy, Tukel has added more than 50 minutes of new video to the original four-episode series. As a low-budget tale on the changing face of New York City, this film manages to be both gritty and lighthearted.
