Thane Furrows, a pessimistic but inadvertently amusing children's book author, wakes up one morning and begins another day of ranting to himself because pretty much everyone and everything irritates him. Thane begins to receive unusual phone calls, letters, and voices in his head, all indicating that something would happen at 8 o'clock, and the day proves to be far from regular. Thane yells and raves about the things that irritate him as the day progresses, the clock ticking closer and closer to his doom.
