The Andromeda Strain

An emergency is declared by the head of the US Air Force's Project Scoop when almost all of the residents of Piedmont are dead after the return to Earth of a space satellite. Friends of distinguished scientists led by Dr. Jeremy Stone scramble into a secure laboratory and attempt to first isolate the entire life form when discovering the two folks from Piedmont - a old alcoholic and also a six-month-old baby - survived.
