John Person, a struggling actor, promises to drive a blue suitcase from Los Angeles to Baker, California, and give it over to a mysterious cowboy in exchange for having his $27,000 credit card debt paid off. John is unable to locate the cowboy upon his arrival, but he is given a box in the shape of a head that he is instructed to hold onto. John becomes close to Ruthie, whose crazy boyfriend Randy repeatedly threatens to kill him, while he is waiting.
