The Square

The Square, a new film by Jehane Noujaim (Control Room. Rafea: Solar Mama), talks about the hard realities confronted daily by people trying to create Egypt's new democracy. Catapulting us to the activity spread across 2011 and 2012, the film provides a kaleidoscopic experience of this struggle. Cairo's Tahrir Square is the center and soul of the film, which follows young activists. Equipped with an abundance of media, decision, new songs, humor, values, and utter obstinacy, they are aware that the thorny road to democracy only began with Hosni Mubarek's collapse. The struggle between this state's power and the people is playing out.
