The Stranger

If we're gone, what exactly do people remember folks? An English artist, neal MacGregor, expired alone aged 44, at a rock hen-house he couldn't operate in, at which he lived onto a remote island without water, electricity or heating. Even the Gaelic-speaking islanders on the island that was depopulating knew little of Neal. Who was this Stranger? Can he be a British spy recording IRA gun running paths, as some islanders thought? Was he attempting to take control of the island? As many others thought, was he crazy? Or was seeking solitude? Neal left volumes of beautifully illustrated note books and secret diaries, and this beautiful enigmatic film pulls together the thought of missing bits, and sensitively paints a portrait of a person, living on the edge, physically and emotionally, and also the insular island community he lived amongst.
