Fullmetal Alchemist

Edward and Alphonse Elric are two brothers adept in alchemy, the discipline of transforming one substance into another. However, alchemy is based on the principle of Equivalent Exchange, which states that in order to create something, it is necessary to sacrifice something of equivalent value. When their mother passes away, Edward chooses to practice Human Alchemy to bring her back to life, therefore violating one of Alchemy's most revered taboos. As he and Alphonse believe they have nothing left to lose, they decide to try their luck, but something horrifying goes wrong. Alphonse loses his body and Edward loses a leg as a result. Ed saves Al by affixing his spirit to a suit of armor, albeit at the expense of his arm and leg.
